Making your own path

I know I haven't written for ages; this is partly because of family commitments, non stop tree making and also because I started (and didn't finish shockingly enough) the #MarchMeetTheMaker challenge on instagram. I really enjoyed taking part in it, but because I was writing posts on the day as they came out, I ran out of steam around day 20 or something.

I'd definitely like to take part in it again next year and I'll try to do some in advance next time. Trouble is when I do write, I get sparks of ideas for subjects then immediately forget again if I don't write them down there and then. Which is sort of what's happened with blogging BUT as I approach my big 'One year in Business' anniversary, I'm more aware of what works for me and what doesn't.

Blogging is one of those things you're "supposed" to do to keep your website current / relevant, and although I enjoy writing (when I'm in the mood), it does very little to get trees made. I know not everybody follows or has all the various social media accounts, but mostly you don't need to have them to stay updated on accounts you're interested in - you can just look them up and voila! What I post on Instagram gets shared to Facebook and Tumblr. As for Twitter .... well I post up a lot of things on there too and you don't need an account to read stuff on there either. Out of all of them, I think Facebook is the only one you can't see without an account ...... ironic considering all the data breach stuff in the news recently. Deviant Art is also open to anyone to have a browse.

I digress ..... so yes, I like writing blog posts when I have something to say but I don't see the point of writing one each week just for the sake of it unless you're actually a writer or a blogger, and I'm neither.

The whole 'find your own way' was triggered by the arrival of an application form this morning to apply for a stand again this year at a local show. I don't know if you'll remember the mud drenched photos from last year but I certainly do. I also remember the major anxiety and all the money and energy spent in preparation for it, so when the letter arrived today I thought "no chance!". Not that I think it's a bad event, more that it's not something I ever want to do again. I only did it last year because I was told it's something I 'should' be doing and with it being my first year working for myself, I thought they were right. Other people do that so I should too. And now I'm reminded of when I was little and being berated with "if they decided to jump off a cliff would you do that too?" Ha ..... adulthood is so funny sometimes!

Anyway to sum it up, it's great to seek advice and all that, but you also need to do what's right for you otherwise you're putting a lot of wrong energy into things that aren't going to work for you, not if you're in it for the long haul.

Big love
