All is Not Lost

Last year I decided I was going to concentrate on some larger tree sculptures in 2025 and this is the first one, hopefully of many.

I lost count of how many hours were spent on this because when I make anything, I'm not clock watching and I'm not really paying attention to anything else apart from the patterns and repetition of what I'm doing which may sound tedious, but to me it's anything but. It's soothing and calming and very peaceful and I hope that translates into the tree you see before you.

The name All is Not Lost came from a sense of inspiration, hope and the ability to create something beautiful at a time when the world can sometimes feel like it's heading down a dark path. I'm not immune to what is happening in the world but for my sanity, I can focus on things that ground me when I need something to hold on to. That energy brought this tree into being.

Alt text will as always be added to each photo to but to draw a picture of it with words...

A purple wisteria bead and wire tree with an abundance of hanging branches starting with pale purple at the top of each one, going into mid purple then a marginally darker purple shade of seed beads at the tip. The wire used is antique copper, giving this a natural look of brown with patches of darker brown through it.

It sits off centre on a rectangular piece of smoothed but not flat edged slate, fixed into place with textured sculpting putty which has been painted first with a black layer then finished with a two tone metallic paint which shimmers in teal / electric blue or deep purple depending on how the light hits it.

Several amethyst crystals are fixed into place in and around the spiralled tree roots to complement the purple of the tree. Not shown, are 4 felt pads on the underside of the slate to protect anything it may be placed on.

Sits at 16 cms / 6.3 inches in height.  Weight approx 0.77kgs

  • Size: Height x Width (including base)
    16cms x 18cms / 6.3 inches x 7 inches

Materials:  Glass seed beads, antique copper coloured tarnish resistant coloured copper wire, tarnish resistant copper wire core, geomfix sculpting putty, acrylic paint, amethyst crystals

Care instructions: Your tree has some degree of flexibility so you may want to adjust the position of some of the hanging branches. This is fine to do as long as you don't overly stress the wire, otherwise it will weaken and may snap. The wire I use has been enamel coated to prevent tarnishing. Dust can be removed with a paintbrush or similar.

Lastly, please be aware due to the nature of the material, although I make every attempt to minimise this, the roots may have some sharp edges. Caution is advised if placing on surfaces that are easily scratched. For ornamental use only.
